The update is available today for all devices

Microsoft has just released a massive update for its latest Android device, and this time, it has also included lots of new features.

First and foremost, it’s important to know that Microsoft’s new update comes with the June 2022 Android security bulletin, so the most recent Android security patches are now available for the Surface Duo 2 as well.

Needless to say, this is one big reason to update the Duo 2 anyway, but on the other hand, there’s so much the dual-screen device is going to get after installing the June update.

For example, Microsoft says it has enabled the Glance Bar to show notifications for third-party messaging apps.

But what I think is the biggest improvement in this update is the addition of optimized charging. Thanks to this new feature, the Surface Duo 2 should be able to reduce battery degradation, therefore preventing the rapid aging that takes place when charging the device. To do its magic, the system enables a gradual charging of the battery when the process happens overnight.

Here are all the new features that are included in this update:

  • Glance Bar shows notifications for 3rd party conversation apps.
  • Enables Haptic feedback control in Camera app settings.
  • Enables Slim Pen 2 automatic firmware update when paired via Bluetooth. See Use Surface Slim Pen with Surface Duo for more info.
  • Enables Automatic pairing of Slim Pen 2 while inking on either screen (requires Slim Pen 2 to have firmware version 5.133.139 or later and software version 5.148.139 or later).
  • Enables optimized charging to help reduce battery aging by charging the battery gradually overnight.
  • Enables Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) support to control device usage. See Manage OEMConfig o Surface Duo 2 for more info.

In addition, Microsoft says the update also comes with improved device stability, touch responsiveness, and camera usability, so it’s without a doubt a must-have version that Duo 2 owners will be happy to have.
