Microsoft has announced a major update for the Windows 11 Photos app, but most of the new features that are included in the release have already been confirmed in the last few months.

For example, the Photos app is getting a redesigned gallery that includes images from all sources, including photos, cameras, and OneDrive.

The Memories feature has also been refreshed, so overall, the Photos app is now capable of providing a more dynamic experience based on the images that are loaded in the app.

The new Photos app will start rolling out to users at the end of this month.

“Coming at the end of October, the Photos app on Windows 11 has been beautifully crafted to make organization of your photo collection easy, no matter where your photos come from — your phone, your camera, OneDrive — see them all together in one gorgeous gallery. We’re also delighted to deliver an exciting new Memories experience which resurfaces pictures you’ve saved on OneDrive, making revisiting life’s magical moments simple and effortless. Enjoy picture compilations of recent highlights, time spent with loved ones, and more,” Microsoft said.

Then, the Photos app is also getting support for iCloud, something that Microsoft has also revealed quite recently.

This time, however, the support for Apple’s service would take a little bit longer to go live, but Microsoft says users should start seeing it at some point next month.

“We also recently announced that the Photos app can now seamlessly access all the photos on your iPhone with direct connection to your iCloud photo library. Just install iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store and the photos you take with your iPhone will appear automatically in your Photos app. iCloud integration will be available in November,” Microsoft explained in the new Photos app announcement.
