Microsoft has just announced that the availability of Tasks in Microsoft Teams on the desktop and on the web has reached 100 percent and all subscribers can now use it.

The rollout of Tasks started earlier this year and happened gradually, and Microsoft says that now that the general availability has been reached, its also renaming it to Tasks by Planner and To Do in desktop and Tasks in mobile.

Tasks is a task management app that comes bundled with Microsoft Teams and which is essentially a mix of Microsoft Planner and Microsoft To Do under one roof.

“Tasks in Teams consolidates personal tasks from To Do and team tasks from Planner into a single, comprehensive view in Teams. In short, To Do and Planner are the task services powering this new experience,” Microsoft said after Ignite 2019 when it announced Tasks in Teams.

“There are two places in Teams where you can access Tasks: as an app in the left siderail and as a tab within individual teams. The app comprises all tasks from To Do and Planner. As for the tab, you can think of that as Planner renamed: it functions the same way And just like the current Planner tab, you can add multiple Tasks tabs to a single team. Just keep in mind that the tab is for team tasks; personal tasks from To Do cannot be added to a tab.”

Tasks for government customers

Microsoft says that right now it’s also working on bringing Tasks in Teams to government cloud offerings, though this will only happen in the coming months.

More information on what Tasks brings new to Microsoft Teams subscribers is available in this post, and Microsoft promises that the Tasks app will launch on iOS and Android rather sooner than later.
