The company acknowledged the performance issue

Microsoft has officially acknowledged the performance issues caused in some games by Windows 10 cumulative update KB5000842, and in addition, it has also provided a workaround that should help deal with the whole thing until a full patch.

KB5001330 is the most recent cumulative update for Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2, but on the other hand, the glitch has actually been introduced by KB5000842, which landed on March 29 as a preview of the new update.

Gamers discovered shortly after updating their devices that the patch causes performance problems, with NVIDIA itself acknowledging the issue and recommending users to remove the update.

Now Microsoft has confirmed the glitch as well, but the company says only a few users are actually impacted by the problem.

“A small subset of users have reported lower than expected performance in games after installing this update. Most users affected by this issue are running games full screen or borderless windowed modes and using two or more monitors,” it says.

New optional updates just around the corner

While the company hasn’t released a new cumulative update to deal with the whole thing, this time the whole thing comes down to a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) that helps users restore to a previously working configuration, therefore getting rid of the problem on their Windows 10 devices.

“This issue is resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the resolution to propagate automatically to consumer devices and non-managed business devices. Restarting your device might help the resolution apply to your device faster. For enterprise-managed devices that have installed an affected update and encountered this issue, it can be resolved by installing and configuring a special Group Policy,” Microsoft says.

New optional cumulative updates for Windows 10 version 2004 and 20H2 are expected next week.
