Report claims Microsoft tweeted about the Surface Phone

You probably heard that the Lumia brand is being phased out by Microsoft in an attempt that’s believed to allow the firm to switch the focus to the Surface Phone, but in reality, the company has never confirmed that such a model was under development.

So while everyone’s hoping to actually see a Surface Phone launching at some point next year, Microsoft isn’t promising anything and provides vague statements that only guarantee continued investments in Windows 10 Mobile.

But according to a report from Polish website MSMobile, the official Twitter account of Microsoft Australia tweeted about the Surface Phone for the very first time, claiming that this model could launch soon as the latest model in the Surface family.

And yet, there are several sketchy details about this report and the screenshot that’s supposed to confirm its legitimacy makes us wonder whether that was indeed a tweet from Microsoft or not.

Probably fake

First of all, Microsoft Australia allegedly posted a photo along with the text “Soon! :).” If you’ve been part of the Windows Phone community for more than a week, you probably know that the term “soon” is one of the most frustrating words that Microsoft has ever used in relation to new product launches in mobile, so it’s hard to believe that the firm would use it in a public tweet given the criticism.

Then, the photo that’s included in the tweet uses text with incorrect capitalization, as it reads “New One in Surface family!” The text should actually read “New one in Surface family!” unless “One” is the name of the phone.

The text, however, doesn’t use Microsoft’s traditional font that the company uses for promotional content, and there’s no Windows 10 logo in the bottom right corner, although this has become more of a signature for all Microsoft ads.

Certainly, it’s hard to tell for sure if Microsoft indeed posted this tweet or not, but even if it didn’t, such a report clearly shows that Windows Phone users do want a Surface Phone no matter what. People with knowledge of the matter said that if it’s real, the Surface Phone should land in 2017, either sooner or later depending on how fast development advances.
