Windows Hello makes the traditional password useless

Windows 10 comes with Windows Hello, a biometric authentication feature that’s supposed to add a new security layer to your PC and mobile device, and thus make hacking not necessarily impossible, but certainly a lot more difficult.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella says Windows Hello is the feature that shows the company’s commitment to improving system security and explains that passwords have become one of the easiest ways to compromise a computer.

Biometric authentication

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Nadella explained that biometric authentication is the next step towards tougher-to-break security measures and nominated Windows 10 as the one platform that supports such authentication methods.

“One of the biggest security issues is passwords. One of the things that we are working on is a world where passwords are not going to be the ones that you know can get hacked but you really have other biometrics that really help us secure our computing interfaces," Nadella was quoted as saying.

At the same time, the CEO also commented on Microsoft’s obsession with productivity, saying that all of their products are now designed to help people do more. Living proof is again Windows 10, which comes with features supposed to keep you productive both at the desk and on the go.

“We had a mission of putting a personal computer PC on every desk in every home, but in retrospect that was a goal... Our mission was to empower every individual and organization. That's really what I look at as we go forward,” he continued.

Nadella is Microsoft’s CEO since early 2014, when he replaced Steve Ballmer at the helm of the company and pushed the software giant in a new direction that’s focused on cloud more than any time before. Nadella is said to be a people person and is trying to give Microsoft the same attitude, so he’s launched several services and products that are developed together with users across the world and based on their suggestions. Including Windows 10, that is.
