Windows 10 will continue to be supported until 2025

Windows 11 is finally up for grabs for eligible devices, but on the other hand, not everybody will be provided with the new operating system on day one.

This is because Microsoft is using a phased rollout to discover potential bugs early and prevent them from hitting a bigger number of devices.

But on the other hand, some computers aren’t eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 11, simply because they don’t meet the new system requirements.

Microsoft says only new hardware should run Windows 11, while everybody else is recommended to stick with Windows 10, which will continue to be supported just like before until October 2025, according to the original schedule.

“For customers who are using a device that is not eligible for Windows 11, Windows 10 is a great place to be. Windows 10 will be serviced through Oct. 14, 2025 and we previously announced that the next feature update to Windows 10 is coming very soon, continuing to offer you both support and choice with Windows,” Microsoft says.

The future of Windows 10

It’s not clear, however, if Windows 10 is supposed to receive any new feature updates next year in addition to the monthly updates released as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle.

But right now, it’s obvious that Microsoft is slowly moving its focus to Windows 11, especially given how much effort it put into the overhaul of the operating system.

“To fully understand the magic of Windows 11 you must get it in your hands. The gorgeous graphics, sounds and animations of Windows 11 along with the innovative and beautiful hardware from our partners and Surface provides an experience like none other,” it says.

Windows 11 is also available on new PCs coming with the OS pre-loaded, and it can also be downloaded using the stand-alone ISO images.
