Interracial couple emojis available for Windows insiders

Windows 10 build 15002, which was released to Fast ring insiders early last week, comes with new emojis that include interracial couples, a first for any major platform, as Emojipedia puts it.

Specifically, starting with this particular build, Windows 10 has 144 new emojis, also including the rainbow flag, genres, and professions.

What’s important to note, however, is that although these new emojis are already available in this build, they aren’t included in the emoji keyboard, so users can only include them in their texts using copy and paste.

“Until now, all platforms have only supported the default-yellow skin tone for Couple With Heart and Kiss,” the aforementioned source notes.

“While the current yellow skin tone is intended as a ‘non-human’ default skin tone, it's clear that some users see this as a defacto white skin tone. As such, the issue of emojis for interracial couples or couples with darker skin tones has been ongoing one, that Microsoft appears to be addressing in this update.”

New emoji coming in Windows 10 Creators Update

Windows 10 now supports any of the following combinations: man + man, man + woman, woman + man, and woman + woman and either woman can have one of six supported skin tones.

Since the built-in emoji keyboard is yet to be updated with the new emojis, expect more improvements in this regard to be added in the coming Windows 10 builds shipped to insiders. Additionally, all users should get the new emoji with the release of the Creators Update due in April.

In the meantime, keep in mind that Microsoft continues working on Windows 10, and some other changes could also be made before the Creators Update goes live. But at this point, it’s very clear that Microsoft is paying particular attention to emojis, as they are becoming more and more popular among Internet users.

Below you can also see a comparison between the new emoji in Windows 10 build 15002, Windows 8.1, macOS Sierra, and Android, with Microsoft clearly spending a considerable amount of time to make its emoji look right in the operating system.
