Michael Shannon is either trolling the fans (big time!) or he’s trying to find unique ways to reveal how his General Zod will return in “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice” without getting in trouble with Warner Bros. for telling a secret.

Vulture caught up with the actor the other day and, as expected, asked him about his cameo in the Comic-Con 2015 trailer for the film. “Cameo” is too strong a word for his brief appearance: he’s shown in a body bag that someone unzips, after Superman snapped his neck at the end of “Man of Steel” in 2013.

For all intents and purposes, General Zod is dead. There’s some speculation online that his inclusion in the trailer is either to fool fans that more will come or to better tie in with the story in “Man of Steel.” There’s also talk that he might actually be brought to life and turned into Doomsday, which would mean Superman is about to have his hands full fighting bad guys in 2016.

Shannon won’t say which of these applies, but he claims his character will somehow have flippers for hands. He tells Vulture a funny story about how he almost got fired because he couldn’t get on set at director Zack Snyder’s call because he couldn’t open the door with his flippers.

Luckily for him, a guy from craft’s services helped him out.

“I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer,” Shannon adds, to create even more confusion. “I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.”

It’s very likely that he’s playing, trying to talk his way out of actually answering the question. But what if he was really telling some part of the truth? What could Zod’s transformation entail?

We’ll probably find out next year in March.
