InFocus creates one of the world's most portable desktop PCs

Desktop computers are usually bulky, heavy, and take a lot of space, but technology has evolved to such a great extent that pretty much the same hardware can now fit into a small case that's not bigger than your mobile phone.

And living proof is a device called Kangaroo, which was created by InFocus and is described as a portable PC that allows you to work in Windows 10 just like on a fully featured desktop computer.

It's not the first time we're hearing about a portable computer, and PCs on a stick have been around for a while, but in the case of Kangaroo, the manufacturer has tried to give users more powerful hardware and connectivity options.

As mentioned by VentureBeat, the device costs only $99 (€75) and is available right now on Newegg, with the official Microsoft Store to start selling it sometime next month.

Technical specifications

Basically, what makes Kangaroo so special are its dimensions, as the device is not bigger than your mobile phone and can easily fit in your pocket, should you decide to carry it around.

But it also comes with decent hardware that could actually replace a desktop computer (and yet, do not expect the Kangaroo to be up for every task, but only for the typical browsing-chatting-document editing combo).

The device comes with a black satin aluminum case and features an Intel Cherrytrail (Z8500) SOC, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, with microSD card support also offered just in case you need more storage. One important thing, however, is that the device runs Windows 10 Home, so only approximately 18 GB are actually available.

What's also interesting is that the device comes with an on-board battery that can provide up to 4 hours of normal use, but also with a so-called Kangaroo Dock that includes additional connectivity options such as HDMI and two USB ports.

Obviously, the idea of having a PC on the go is pretty awesome, and that's probably why Microsoft is building Continuum, but it will still take a while until powerful hardware indeed becomes available in these small cases. In the meantime, Kangaroo is a good device to get you started with Windows 10, so look for it at Newegg or Microsoft stores sometime in the near future.
