MediaTek has just announced the launch of its new MediaTek Helio P25 chipset for mobile devices. The new chip is built on the 16nm octa-core process and comes with MediaTek Imagiq, a superior Image Signal Processing technology, as well as dual-camera features for smartphones.

Dual-camera setup has become quite popular on the smartphone market, and it’s not reserved only to premium smartphones, we’ve seen even mid-range devices that come with such powerful camera capabilities, like the Honor 6X.

MediaTek announced that new Helio P25 offers premium quality imaging, high-end camera features and advanced camera effects, including shallow depth-of-field and high-performance auto exposure for capturing high-quality images in any light.

Helio P25 comes with 12bit Dual ISP, which means that it supports a camera resolution of up to 24MP or 13MP+13MP for a dual-camera setup. It offers color + mono de-noise and real-time shallow bokeh effects, video HDR with full preview and high-performance auto exposure with turbo 3A to accelerate speeds by 30-50%.

Improved power efficiency and support for up to 6GB of RAM

Power consumption is an important element of every chipset and the Helio P25 offers up to 25% better power efficiency compared to other processors. It contains an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 2.5GHz and it is paired with ARM Mali-T880 dual graphics processing unit clocked at 900MHz, suitable for handling video and gaming apps. However, the GPU only supports up to 1080p video resolutions.

Helio P25 handles enhanced uploads in LTE and it was built to deliver a high processing speed with less chance of overheating. It supports up to 6GB LPDDR4x, provides improved bandwidth by up to 70% and reduces the memory’s power needs. LPDDR4x is the fastest low-power double data rate random access memory available right now.

MediaTek says Helio P25 will power smartphones to be launched in Q1 2017, but didn’t actually name any device.
