Yesterday, Mark and Priscilla Zuckerberg welcomed their baby daughter into the world, young Max. Following the baby's successful birth, Mark penned a public letter to announce the event, but also to reveal some of his and his wife's plans for Max's future.

According to Mr. Zuckerberg's Facebook blog post, he and his wife have set two goals to achieve through their Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a non-profit charity organization in the same category as what Bill and Melinda Gates have been running for the past few decades.

The two goals he set are for advancing human potential and for promoting equality. While hopelessly generic (Miss America level), Mr. and Mrs. Zuckerberg have something on their side that not many people have: $45 billion / €42.5 billion.

To help him reach his goals, Mark has pledged 99% of his Facebook shares to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

"We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about $45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission," Mark wrote on Facebook. "Max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children."

Mark delivers on an older promise

The announcement was greeted with joy across all around the Internet and comes to show that Mark is a man of his word. Back in 2010, before Facebook's IPO and before he found out he's going to be richer than in his wildest dreams, Mark entered the Giving Pledge campaign.

The Giving Pledge is an unofficial movement started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, who pledged to give away most of their fortune during their lifetime. Other people that joined include Star Wars director George Lucas, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, and former AOL CEO Steve Case.

Following the birth of their daughter, celebrities flocked to congratulate the Zuckerberg couple, such as Melinda Gates, Richard Branson, Shakira, Maria Shriver, Arianna Huffington, and Ashley Judd.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Zuckerberg, on behalf of the Softpedia Team.
