14 DAY TRIAL // No matter how many paparazzi photo ops a new celebrity couple has, nothing is “official” until they make their red carpet debut. For diva Mariah Carey and Australian billionaire James Packer, this happened last night, at the New York premiere of the film “The Intern.”
“The Intern” pairs Anne Hathaway with screen icon Robert De Niro, and sees the latter play the unpaid assistant of Anne’s boss lady character.
Mariah doesn’t do movie premieres that often, but it seems this unlikely pairing (and obviously the talent behind it) was enough to get her out of the house. She got James to come along and they even posed for pictures on the red carpet.
Mariah and James are definitely serious
This marks their first red carpet outing as a couple, which, in turn, means that things are getting serious between them. Celebrities usually prefer to keep new romances out of the media at first, but when they realize that the relationship is going places, they make their so-called “public debut,” usually on a red carpet.
As you can see in the video below, Mariah refused to give in to requests from photographer to “Give us a kiss!” and she even resisted doing loved-up poses.
However, she and James were holding hands, which leaves little room to doubt the fact that they’re a couple. The Daily Mail has photos from the event, and in a few of them, the two are seen kissing, so the moment must have happened after they left the red carpet.
James could be the one
Mariah’s divorce from Nick Cannon, with whom she has twins Moroccan and Monroe, isn’t even final yet, but word online has it that she and James have already discussed the possibility of getting married as soon as possible.
In spring, Packer went to Las Vegas and saw her perform live, as part of her residency there. He was smitten with her and he started actively pursuing her, until he got her to agree to go out on a date with him.
In June, they had already been going out for a while and he asked her to accompany him on an extended journey in the Mediterranean, on board his yacht. Mariah took the twins and went along, which is how the paparazzi got the first photos of the two walking hand in hand on the beach or shopping in Italy and France.
When she returned from the vacation, on her first Vegas show, she boasted to the fans about receiving “a new heart” from her love: Packer had presented her with a very expensive and beautiful heart-shaped diamond necklace.
