This Tuesday, daredevil Nik Wallenda, already world famous for his high-wire performances, will attempt one of his bravest stunts yet.

Come nightfall, he plans to walk an astounding 1,576 feet (480 meters) on a wire over the Milwaukee Mile Speedway, a race track on the grounds of the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis, Wisconsin.

The wire, said to be the width of a nickel, will be positioned at more than 10 stories over the race track, so, should he falter even for a split second, he could be seriously injured.

36-year-old Nik Wallenda believes it will take him about 20 to 30 minutes to complete this much-awaited tightrope walk, the absolute longest in his career.

He will carry a bar weighing around 45 pounds (roughly 20 kilograms) to keep his balance and, with a little bit of luck, he might just make it all the way across the wire.

His family will be watching his every step

Nik Wallenda's mother Delilah, an acrobat herself and a member of the famous Flying Wallendas group of stunt performers, will be closely observing his performance, as will his wife and their children.

In fact, it is understood that the shoes Nik Wallenda will be wearing when attempting the tightrope walk are the work of his mother, who designed and made them especially for the occasion, Fox News reports.

“Why did I choose this as a career? This is something that's part of my life. It's hard to explain. I grew up with this. This is home for me,” Nik Wallenda confessed in an interview, hinting at how his mother's career undoubtedly influenced his.

Back in 2012, the acrobat walked across the Niagara Falls. Then, in 2013, he walked across the Grand Canyon. He holds as many as 9 Guinness World Records for this performance high above the ground and, as it turns out, wouldn't mind a few more.
