Magic: Legends, the action-RPG developed by Cryptic Studios, is shaping up to a great game for fans of the Magic: The Gathering universe, even though it doesn't belong to the card game genre.

After announcing an open beta for Magic: Legends in March, the fine folks at Cryptic shared a glimpse of what's to come. That being said, we're going to talk about gear and customization, something that's very important in an RPG like this one that's based on Wizards of the Coast's iconic trading card game.

So, loot in Magic: Legends comes in three variations based on rarity: common, uncommon, rare, and mythic rare. Players get to equip their Planeswalkers with gear for the Head, Body, Arms, and Feet, as well as two Accessories.

As it's accustomed for this type of game, gear will have stat bonuses that will improve a character's prowess in battle, but also survivability. Some of the gear you loot will allow your Planeswalker to deal increased damage, while other pieces of gear will reduce damage received or even steal the life force of defeated enemies.

It's important to note that all gear in Magic: Legends has a single Core Mod, as well as one or more Adaptive Mods. The Core Mods are fixed and you won't be able to swap them out, while Adaptive Mods and be interchanged.

As you can imagine, there will be a lot of gear to loot in Magic: Legends, so you'll be tempted to sell any duplicate equipment you find. Well, the game offers players another alternative, as the equipment you don't need can be used to either unlock a new Adaptive Mod or allow you to earn an upgrade material for that specific piece of gear.

Another interesting piece of information revealed by developers is The Tailor, an NPC where players can alter the look of their Planeswalkers. The equipment you find throughout is not just going to boost your Planeswalker fighting capabilities, but it will also unlock new cosmetic options.

You'll have to visit The Tailor to mix and match your piece to create a unique look for your Planeswalker if you're into transmog stuff. The NPC will let you customize your character's body, face, skin color, hairstyle, and more. You can even save your favorite appearances to swap your Loadouts on the fly.
