The theme aligns with the dark theme in Mojave

Dark themes appear to be the next big thing in UI design, and Microsoft itself is becoming increasingly interested in rolling out such visual facelifts for its products.

One of the apps to get a dark theme is none other than OneDrive, but contrary to what you may be expecting, this won’t happen on Windows 10.

As Neowin notes, the dark OneDrive theme will be released for macOS as part of a completely revamped client, pretty much aligning with the overall look of Mojave, which also comes with a dark visual style.

Strangely enough, Windows 10 doesn’t come with a dark theme for OneDrive, and it’s not yet clear when and if Microsoft plans to release such a feature for its own platform.

On Windows 10, OneDrive can’t yet receive such an update mostly because it’s a Win32 app, the cited source notes, though Microsoft has already demonstrated that this isn’t necessarily a setback.

No word on dark theme for Windows users

File Explorer, the default file manager bundled into Windows 10 and which itself is a Win32 app, is getting a dark theme with the release of Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

OneDrive is bundled into Windows 10 is offered as the backup solution to all users, with features like Files On-Demand ensuring smooth browsing without unnecessary data downloads. The same feature has recently been released on macOS, so Microsoft is bringing nearly the same feature lineup to Apple’s platform as well.

It’ll be interesting to see if Microsoft plans to bring a OneDrive dark theme to Windows 10 as well, but this announcement may cause more criticism in its own user community given the increasing support for rival platforms.

The same thing happened in the previous years as well with Windows 10 Mobile, when Microsoft started investing more in Android and iOS than in its very own mobile operating system.
