14 DAY TRIAL // The first Microsoft smartphones to ship with Windows 10 Mobile right out of the box, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, have just been unveiled earlier today.
The handsets have already been confirmed to arrive later this month for $550 and $650 outright, respectively. Obviously, pricing options may vary on country and carriers, but this is the suggested retail price announced by Microsoft.
Many Windows Phone fans have been waiting for these high-end smartphones for quite a while, so it might be difficult for them to choose one or the other.
As mentioned earlier, the Lumia 950 XL is $100 more expensive than the Lumia 950, so this is the first thing a customer needs to know.
Most of the other specs included in these Windows 10 devices are similar, with a few exceptions, like display and chipset.
Microsoft covers two size ranges with its new flagships
For example, the Lumia 950 sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, whereas the Lumia 950 XL boasts a much larger 5.7-inch AMOLED display with the same resolution.
Lumia 950 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating, while the Lumia 950 XL packs Corning Gorilla Glass 4, so it's up to you to decide whether you need a phablet or a standard-sized smartphone.
Another difference between the two devices would be the chipset. Although both pack Qualcomm chipsets, the Lumia 950 is powered by a 1.8 GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 CPU, while the Lumia 950 XL is equipped with the best Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 810.
There's also the matter of battery. Since the Lumia 950 XL boasts a large 5.7-inch display, it makes sense to be equipped with a better 3,340 mAh battery. On the other hand, Lumia 950 drains energy from a slightly smaller 3,000 mAh battery.
Obviously, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL have different sizes, which is another aspect that you should take into consideration before making your purchase.
The Lumia 950 measures 145 x 73.2 x 8.2 mm and weighs 150g (battery included), while the XL model has 151.9 x 78.4 x 8.1 mm and weighs 165 g.
