A new day, a new report pointing to the imminent death of the Lumia brand, this time coming from Germany where Microsoft’s flagship Windows phone is sold out and is very unlikely to become available once again in the near future.

Reports coming from local media indicate that the Lumia 950 is no longer available at German Microsoft stores, as the device is sold out everywhere across the country. But what’s more important is that the software giant has no intention to refill stocks anytime soon.

The device was already on sale with a significant price cut in an attempt to clear out inventories, but now that it’s already out of stock, Microsoft can continue paving the way for what many have considered to be the demise of the Lumia brand.

Focus switching to the Surface Phone

Specifically, Microsoft no longer wants to keep the Lumia brand alive, and people with knowledge of the matter hinted that production of the latest Lumia models, including here the 950, the 950 XL, and the 650, has already stopped.

Microsoft has never confirmed plans to shut down the Lumia brand, but the firm dropped several hints that it might indeed be doing that, as it removed the Lumia section from its Store front page and didn’t inform retail store staff about the availability of new stocks of phones.

The focus is believed to soon move to the Surface Phone, Microsoft’s next flagship due in 2017 which could help the company remain an active player in the mobile industry.

At the same time, Redmond has also said on several occasions that it would continue investing in Windows 10 Mobile and support partners who want to launch devices running this OS. Windows 10 Mobile is expected to receive a more significant update in spring 2017 with the release of the Redstone 2, as Microsoft has already promised “more cool things for phones” next year.
