Both Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL were supposed to launch with the final version of Windows 10 Mobile operating system onboard, but the consensus is the software still needs some work.

The good news is Microsoft hasn't yet released Windows 10 Mobile to the general public, so the only ones affected by these issues are Windows Insiders and Lumia 950/950 XL owners.

With each new Windows 10 Mobile previews build that Microsoft releases to Windows Insiders, the operating system gets smoother, and many bugs are squashed.

Up until now, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL couldn't flash these Windows 10 Mobile preview builds because their smartphones were not supported by Windows Insider program.

However, with the release of the latest Windows 10 Mobile preview build 10586.29, both high-end smartphones are now fully compatible with the Windows Insider program.

As WMPU points out, Microsoft recently updated Windows Device Recovery Tools with support for Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, so users shouldn't have any issues installing any new Windows 10 Mobile preview builds.

The latest preview build brings lots of improvements, bug fixes

Speaking of which, the Lumia 950/950 XL come with Windows 10 Mobile 10586.0, which is still an experimental build. That's why it's important to update to the latest 10586.29 build, which contains lots of bug fixes and improvements.

The official changelog mentions additional improvements in upgrade experience, including devices with limited free space, map rendering on update and RCS-enabled device settings.

Also, Edge performance and stability improvements have been implemented too, along with additional Bluetooth stability improvements. According to Microsoft, auto-completion has been updated to allow users to more easily edit the end of the URL in the address bar.

Many other under-the-hood fixes that haven't been mentioned in the changelog have been implemented in the update, so if you're not content with your Lumia 950/950 XL, you might want to try the new preview build.
