About a week ago a new rumor emerged that Microsoft might skip the Lumia 940 naming scheme and jump directly to Lumia 950.

That would mean that the Redmond-based company will launch the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL flagship smartphones later this fall, as its main flagship smartphones.

Today, WMPU reports another source confirmed the new high-end smartphones to be launched by Microsoft this year would be known as Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.

According to Chinese blog ITHome, Lumia 950 (codename Talkman) will sport a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that should support Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. That's quite an improvement since previous rumors claimed this device will pack a full HD display.

Furthermore, Microsoft Lumia 950 will be equipped with a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory with support for microSD expansion (up to 128GB).

On the back, the smartphone will pack a 20-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, triple LED flash and video recording, while in the front there will be a 5-megapixel selfie camera.

Continuum support available only from next year

Microsoft Lumia 950 XL will boast a much larger 5.7-inch Quad HD display and it will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor paired with 3GB RAM. Also, the flagship handset will pack 32GB of internal memory with support for microSD expansion (up to 128GB).

It will come with a similar 20-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, video recording and triple LED flash. In the front, the same 5-megapixel camera will allow users to take pictures, selfies or video calls.

Both smartphones will feature polycarbonate unibody, USB Type-C port and support for Continuum via accessory cable, which is likely to be available from early 2016.

Lumia 950 will be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, whereas the Lumia 950 XL will come with a slightly larger 3,300 mAh battery.

Microsoft is expected to announce the smartphones in late September, but they might not be available until October/November.
