Microsoft will launch its new Lumia flagships on October 6, and by that time, the company should also finalize work on Windows 10 Mobile, but some very interesting info concerning the version that will come with these new devices has reached the web today.

WinBeta is reporting that both the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will launch with Windows 10 Mobile Threshold 1, while all the other Windows Phone devices will get the operating system in November, when Threshold 2 is expected to be ready. The new flagships will also get the update to TH2 at that time.

What’s interesting to note is that Microsoft has already finalized work on Windows 10 Mobile, the report claims, and Lumia 950 and 950 XL are expected to launch with build number 10240, which is the same RTM version for PCs that was released on July 29.

All Lumias to get Windows 10 Mobile in November

Work on this build is already complete, and Microsoft is now working on some patches and improvements that will be included in the version pre-installed on the new Lumias.

While these two devices will ship with TH1, Windows Phone devices will get the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile when TH2 becomes available, which most likely is expected to take place in November. So there will be a delay of approximately one month before the moment new Lumias get to see daylight and the one when everyone gets the upgrade. And during this whole time, Microsoft is supposed to complete work on TH2.

This first update isn’t expected to bring too many feature changes, but mostly performance improvements and optimizations that would make the platform faster and more reliable. The aforementioned source claims TH1 and TH2 “are nearly identical” on mobile, so you’ll feel almost no difference when getting the upgrade.

In the meantime, Windows 10 Mobile is still being improved with help from insiders, so it remains to be seen how development goes in these last few weeks before the launch.
