A couple of days ago, The Hollywood Reporter delivered an amazing piece of news for fans of the cult TV series “Xena: Warrior Princess”: NBC and NBCUniversal were working on bringing it back, either as a revival series or a reboot that they would renew for several seasons.
Executive producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert were both on board, and network bosses wanted Lucy Lawless back as Xena and a producer as well. The same report mentioned 2016 as a possible air date, citing sources familiar with the situation.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter is not Star or OK! Magazine, which means that whatever unnamed sources they’re using are usually pretty reliable. Most rumors reported on by THR turn out to be true in the long run, so there was no reason to doubt this wouldn’t be the case here, especially since a “Xena” reboot of some sort has been a hot topic for years.
Well, Lucy Lawless says there’s no reason to be holding your breath for it, because it’s not happening, or at the very least, it’s not happening right now. You can see her tweet on the topic below: she’s not saying it will never be made, but she’s saying there’s no truth to the above-mentioned report.
Either THR’s sources were completely off the mark on it, or Lawless is doing some damage control because word of this shouldn’t have gotten out just yet. Personally, I’m hoping for the latter.
Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage.
