No official announcement on this just yet

Telegram is often considered one of the best, if not really the best, alternatives to WhatsApp, especially as the man behind the application guarantees a full focus on user privacy.

At the same time, Telegram is getting updates at a super-fast pace and on a regular basis, and in the last few months, its overhaul included everything from new features to UI refinements.

But now it looks like Telegram is about to get something that would push the app to a completely new level.

The parent company is preparing a service called Telegram Premium, which is essentially a subscription-based version that would obviously be available for a fee.

Discovered by Alessandro Paluzzi on Twitter, this Telegram Premium plan is still unconfirmed, but it’s believed it’s all just a matter of time until an announcement goes live.

So why would people be willing to pay for Telegram Premium?

As it turns out, the company believes that a small fee will make sense if it offers extra goodies, such as premium stickers, additional reactions, and other small tweaks that can further enhance the chatting experience. Furthermore, it might also come with other benefits, including free unlimited cloud storage for chats and media.

Without a doubt, Telegram Premium will evolve over time, but at first glance, the main app will continue to remain free. After all, one of the main tag lines of the app is free forever, so I personally don’t expect the company to change anything on this front not now and not in the long term either.

It remains to be seen how many people will be willing to pay for things like reactions and emojis, but given the essential chatting experience will be largely unchanged, a service like Telegram Premium could be a pretty hard sell overall.
