14 DAY TRIAL // Logitech has just announced what it calls the company’s “most sophisticated webcam yet,” as it comes not only with top-notch hardware, but also with support for Windows 10’s biometric authentication.
First and foremost, although it’s a webcam, the BRIO 4K Pro comes at a price that you wouldn’t normally expect for this kind of device. The device goes on sale today at $199 in the U.S. and €239 in Europe.
Then, the BRIO looks and feels like a webcam, but it offers so much more, including 4K ultra HD video calling, 90-degree field of view, 5x digital zoom in full HD, autofocus, built-in dual omni-directional microphones with noise cancellation and infrared sensors.
Furthermore, the webcam features Logitech’s RightLight 3 technology, which is supposed to provide excellent color and brightness adjustments no matter the conditions. In other words, the quality of the video or image should be uncompromised even in a dark room.
The Windows 10 goodies
And then, it’s the thing that’s more exciting for Windows 10 users. The new BRIO webcam supports Windows Hello, so you can configure it to allow for biometric authentication whenever you want to quickly log in to your desktop.
It goes without saying that Microsoft is very pleased to see companies like Logitech investing in Windows Hello, so the software giant praised the new device in a statement released today.
“Microsoft is pleased that Logitech has chosen to bring enterprise-grade security with Windows Hello facial recognition to the BRIO webcam,” said Matt Perry, partner group program manager at Microsoft. “By qualifying BRIO with Windows Hello, Logitech is providing its consumer and enterprise customers with a Windows 10 login experience that is secure, password-free and seamless.”
Although it goes without saying that Windows 10 is the recommended operating system to make the most of the new webcam, the BRIO also works with Windows 7 (with support up to 1080p), Windows 8.1, and macOS 10.10 or higher.
