Linux Lite creator Jerry Bezencon informs Softpedia today, October 5, 2016, about the release and immediate availability of the Beta of his upcoming Linux Lite 3.2 Ubuntu-based operating system.

Based on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus), Linux Lite 3.2 promises to be a great release, come November 1, 2016, designed not only for those who want to migrate from a Microsoft Windows operating system but also for power users who like to boot multiple GNU/Linux distributions on the same machine.

"Linux Lite 3.2 Beta is now available for testing. There have been a number of changes since the 3.0 release. Linux Lite should now multi boot with other distros, whilst remaining easily distinguishable to Windows folks in a dual boot environment. I look forward to your feedback regarding these changes," says Jerry Bezencon in today's announcement.

Here's what's new in Linux Lite 3.2 Beta

There are many other interesting improvements in this Beta release of Linux Lite 3.2, besides the GRUB bootloader improvements mentioned above. Some of these include a revamped boot splash that's easier on the eyes, better contrasting for the system tray icons, resource usage, and terminal theme, and a Help manual for newcomers.

It uses the latest version of the WhiskerMenu Applications menu, along with up-to-date software versions, among which we can mention the Mozilla Firefox 49.0 web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.3.0 email and news client, LibreOffice 5.1.4.2 office suite, VLC Media Player 2.2.2 video player, and GIMP 2.8.18 image editor. Under the hood, Linux Lite 3.2 Beta uses the Linux 4.4 LTS kernel.

There are also some small, yet essential bug fixes that should make your Linux Lite experience much better, as well as a bunch of new wallpapers from the community. The Lite Desktop Widget component also got a new optional feature that shows basic system information on your desktop. Linux Lite 3.2 Bea is available for download right now via our website, and it's here only for testing purposes.
