Linux kernel maintainer Jiri Slaby announced the release and general availability of the sixty-seventh maintenance update to the long-term supported Linux 3.12 kernel series.

The Linux 3.12 LTS (Long Term Support) series was supposed to reach end of life earlier this year, but will be maintained for one more year, until spring 2017, because it is currently used in the SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 12 operating system, which just received its second Service Pack (SP) a few days ago. And now, Linux kernel 3.12.67 LTS is here to address various issues since the last point release.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.67 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade," said Jiri Slaby. "The updated 3.12.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.12.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Mostly CIFS and PPC improvements, but also updated drivers

According to the appended shortlog and the diff from Linux kernel 3.12.66 LTS, the Linux 3.12.67 LTS kernel release changes a total of 82 files, with 716 insertions and 391 deletions. Among the improvements implemented in this update, we can mention numerous fixes for the CIFS file system, and a couple more for the EXT4, ISOFS, NFS, UBIFS, and ReiserFS filesystems, as well as small mm, perf, and IPC bug fixes.

There are also various improvements for the PowerPC (PPC), x86, MetaG, ARC, and MIPS hardware architectures, and updated drivers, in particular for things like general-purpose input/output (GPIO), MD, MMC, I2C, Ethernet (Intel i40e and Mellanox mlx4), s390, SCSI, UIO, and USB. If you're using a GNU/Linux distribution powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 3.12 series, please update to version 3.12.67 at your earliest convenience.
