14 DAY TRIAL // The LibreOffice community is preparing for the launch of the first major update for LibreOffice 5.x, and they are organizing a bug hunt.
The LibreOffice bug hunts are done before the launch of each big update for the office suite. They are a sort of development sprint which allows devs to concentrate on the biggest problems or to fix some of the easy-to-identify issues.
LibreOffice is a massive suite of different applications, which means that there are always problems that need to be corrected and features that need to added. The LibreOffice developers never rest and if you take a look at the changelogs for each new versions, you’ll see why. The two most used components of LibreOffice, Writer and Calc, will get some special attention.
LibreOffice 5.1 to land soon
The beauty of any open source application is that you get to know what’s going to happen ahead of time. For example, in LibreOffice the developers publish what they are planning for the 5.1 release long before the launch and anyone can get an idea. “The LibreOffice community is working hard on the next major release of LibreOffice 5.1 – planned for early February – with a bug hunting session focused on new features and fixes for bugs and regressions, to test the second release candidate. In addition, there will be two dedicated sessions for Writer between 3PM UTC and 5PM UTC on Friday, January 15, and for Calc between 3PM UTC and 5PM UTC on Saturday, January 16,” developers wrote.
The second and third RCs for LibreOffice 5.1 should be available by the end of January, and the stable release of the office suite should land on February 1. The end of life for this particular branch will occur on November 27, 2016.
