LibreOffice was, is, and will almost certainly continue to be the world’s most popular alternative to Microsoft Office.

And clearly, the folks over at The Document Foundation want to make sure LibreOffice offers the best experience to users, so the suite is getting updates regularly, often with lots of improvements.

LibreOffice 7.3 is therefore available for download right now, and according to the official changelog, the focus this time has been on interoperability with Microsoft Office documents.

TDF explains that the developing team focused on new capabilities, such as the new handling of change tracking in tables and when the text is moved, specifically to be sure that opening an MS Office document is possible without losing any data or the original format.

LibreOffice 7.3 also comes with performance improvements that are most obvious when opening large Word and Excel documents.

And at the same time, it includes improvements for export and import filters.

Available for download right now

However, TDF says it also focused its efforts on several other improvements.

“ScriptForge libraries, which make it easier to develop macros, have also been extended with various features: the addition of a new Chart service, to define charts stored in Calc sheets; a new PopupMenu service, to describe the menu to be displayed after a mouse event; an extensive option for Printer Management, with a list of fonts and printers; and a feature to export documents to PDF with full management of PDF options. The whole set of services is available with identical syntax and behavior for Python and Basic,” it says.

LibreOffice 7.3 can be downloaded right now on Windows, Linux, and macOS, and needless to say, all the latest improvements are available on all supported platforms. The Community version is available in 120 different language versions, according to the official data shared by the parent company.
