The LibreELEC development team is announcing the availability of the second Beta release of the upcoming LibreELEC 8.0 "Krypton" open-source Linux-based operating system for embedded devices.

LibreELEC 8.0 has been in the works for quite some time now, tracking the development of the Kodi 17 "Krypton" open-source media center, which hit the streets in its final, production-ready state on the first day of February 2017, and it's time for it to be promoted to the stable channel.

A second Beta build (version 7.95.2) has been seeded to public testers this weekend, based on the final Kodi 17 release, and it's a small update that fixes an issue with MP3 and TagLib streams, addresses various media_build problems with certain IR (Infrared) drivers, and improves support for TT-S2-3600 DVB devices.

It also updates the Raspberry Pi and DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting), bumps the LibreELEC settings utility to version 0.8.8 to fix some minor cosmetic bugs, and improves the Linux kernel support patches for Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computers.

LibreELEC 8.0 "Krypton" should be released in the coming days

According to the developers, this second Beta release of LibreELEC 8.0 "Krypton" could also be the last if no critical blockers are found and reported by those who will be able to test drive it. This also means that the final LibreELEC 8.0 "Krypton" version should be released in the coming days.

"LibreELEC (Krypton) 8.0 preview releases continue with v7.95.2 available for all build projects except Amlogic aarch64 devices. LibreELEC v7.95.2 is based upon Kodi Krypton 17.0 final. If no major issues are identified we expect 8.0.0 to be the next release," reads the announcement.

If you want to help the LibreELEC developers, go ahead and download the binary packages for your device(s) and send them the feedback they need to wrap things up and push the final release of LibreELEC 8.0 "Krypton" out the door as soon as possible.
