Liam Hemsworth is not the type of celebrity to get up on a soapbox to preach, but he’d gladly talk about the changes he’s made to his life and the improvement they brought about. This month’s issue of Men’s Health is definitely proof of that, as he reveals he went vegan a little over 5 months ago.

The handsome Australian actor, who will be seen next in the final installment of “The Hunger Games” franchise in November, knows that 5 months might not be much. At the same time, he believes this is just the first step towards a new life.

Health considerations and respect for animals

Going vegan can be a challenging period of transition, but not if you have the proper motivation. Asked what made him, a lifelong carnivore, want to switch it up like this, Liam says that his respect for animals and certain health considerations prompted his decision.

In other words, stay informed. After a series of blood tests about half a year ago, Liam’s doctors kept telling him to eat more red meat, which he obviously did: you’re supposed to follow doctors’ orders, aren’t you? Contrary to expectations, he was feeling worse by the day.

This is when he started looking more into what meat did to the body and especially into the conditions in which the meat was obtained. Shortly afterwards, he was talking to other vegans he knew, like his “Hunger Games” co-star Woody Harrelson, and getting to learn more about this lifestyle.

“He’s been vegan for, I don’t know, 30 years or something,” Liam says of Woody. “So, with the facts I was gathering, and then just how I was physically feeling, I felt like I had to do something different, so I adopted this vegan-diet lifestyle. It’s been almost five months now. […] There are no negatives to eating like this. I feel nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it. I feel like it also has a kind of a domino effect on the rest of my life.”

Spreading the news

In addition to planning on staying vegan for the rest of his life, Liam is also hoping his equally famous brother, Chris Hemsworth, will opt for this lifestyle.

Chris is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays the God of Thunder Thor, so he’s always in top physical condition. However, Liam says, while he’s working out all the time and he’s eating healthy, he has certain digestive issues that he can’t seem to overcome.

Because turning vegan has had such a positive impact on Liam’s health, Chris too is adapting parts of his diet to his own. In the end, Liam hints, he might make the transition completely.
