LG G5's official unveiling is just around the corner, but before that the South Korean company wants us to take a look at another smartphone that will be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2016, the Stylus 2.

The sequel to the mid-range phablet has been recently announced with some improvements such as a pen with nano-coated tip for more accuracy.

Aside from the improved pen, LG Stylus 2 comes with new proprietary functions developed specifically for this smartphone such as Pen Pop, which allows users to toggle a popup menu when the stylus is removed to offer shortcuts to Pop Memo and Pop Scanner.

The phablet also comes with Pen Keep, which prevents the stylus from being lost by displaying a popup message when the phone is detected as being in motion when the stylus slot is empty.

Specs-wise, LG Stylus 2 is a mid-range smartphone that boasts a massive 5.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

On the inside, the phablet comes equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

“Premium large phone at a price of a mid-tier”

At the back, LG Stylus 2 packs a 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there's a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

The Stylus 2 packs 3,000 mAh removable battery and offers multiple connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS support.

Last but not least, LG Stylus 2 ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box. No word on price and availability yet.

“LG Stylus 2 provides both the big screen and premium notetaking functions of a premium large phone at a price of a mid-tier phone. This device is another example of our commitment to the mass-tier segment where there is so much opportunity for growth and creativity,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
