LG officials revealed some details about the new phone

CES 2017 is a good occasion for smartphone makers to present their latest innovations and talk about new products to come. LG Chief Technology Officer Skott Ahn has stated during the event that the G6 will come “in the very near future.”

The smartphone will apparently ditch the modular design found on its predecessor, considering that the LG G5 and Friends accessories didn’t do so great on the market. Modular capabilities on smartphones are an attractive feature for users, as the Moto Z and MotoMods illustrated last year, but somehow the G5 failed to leave a lasting impression on consumers.

The G6 will stray away from the modular concept and instead focus on “aesthetics and usability,” which means a somewhat new design and easier-to-use phone. Mr. Ahn emphasized LG’s focus on the smartphone division, which it intends to revamp and boost, hopefully with the help of the G6.

LG announced the V20 last year, the first smartphone with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and some premium features, which performed relatively well on the Android-running phone market.

The smartphone could be announced in February

Company officials stated for the Wall Street Journal that the LG G6 would have a similar price as the G5, which means about $600, and that the phone might be announced during MWC 2017, to be held in February. However, a couple of other dates are also considered, but an announcement in February seems like a good idea, since it would provide LG with the opportunity to capitalize on the market before Samsung releases its highly anticipated Galaxy S8 in April.

The G6 is rumored to come with a 3D glass back panel and 2.5D LCD edge-to-edge display, as well as a dual-camera setup on the back. The device might have a 5.3-inch display, USB Type-C port and run the latest Qualcomm processor, Snapdragon 835.
