14 DAY TRIAL // We're still six months away from the reveal of LG's flagship smartphone, the G6, but information about the device keeps coming, so we just can't ignore it. LG is one of the handset makers that reported huge losses this year, a sign that the G5 modular smartphone was actually a flop and the V20 sales could not balance the revenue.
That's probably the main reason LG has decided to drop the modular design for a more traditional approach, or at least this is what the latest rumors point out. The upcoming LG G6 will be unveiled next spring, but we already have some interesting information to share with our readers.
Korean media reports that LG will not be using the White Card payment technology inside its G6 flagship. The technology will be replaced by a new one called MST. Sources in the IT and financial industries claim that LG is now readying for mass-production and testing of the MST service.
Unlike White Card, the MST technology is more versatile, as it allows payments to take place automatically when smartphones are placed near magnetic credit card readers. On top of that, more than 90% of card readers that are now available on the market are fully compatible with the MST technology.
The same method is used by Samsung Pay, another mobile payment service that has become very popular among smartphone users due to the fact that it's very easy to use. In fact, Samsung owns some patents regarding MST technology, which is why LG had to customize the solution integrated into the G6 to avoid infringing on these patents.
Aside from the new MST payment method that will be available to those who purchase the G6, LG also plans to integrate NFC (Near Field Communication) and wireless charging capabilities into the phone.
Along with the G6 flagship, the South Korean company might also launch its own mobile payment service, the long-rumored LG Pay, which will be based on this MST technology.
