Here is something unusual that we don't see every day and especially not when a flagship is involved. One of the highly anticipated smartphones for the first half of the year and winner of best MWC 2016 handset, LG G5 might not have the same powerful hardware configuration in all countries.

Some of you might recall that a slightly downgraded version of LG G5 showed up in benchmarks ahead of the flagship's official reveal at MWC 2016.

Although we initially thought this would be a mini version of LG G5, it turns out that the South Korean company had something else in mind all along.

According to a Chilean blog (via GSMArena), LG will launch a downgraded LG G5 variant in Latin America. The specs inside this version of the smartphone match those of the LG H840 device listed at GFXBench a few weeks ago.

The main difference between the regular LG G5 model and the smartphone launched in Latin America is the chipset inside.

While the device announced at MWC 2016 comes equipped with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, the Latin American model includes a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 CPU.

The LG 360 VR headset won't be available in Latin America either

Aside from that, the downgraded model packs an Adreno 510 graphics processing unit inside, as well as 3GB of RAM instead of 4GB.

According to LG, the decision to launch a lower version of the G5 in Latin America was based on the feedback received from major carriers across the continent. Also, the South Korean company took into consideration the currency appreciation in this part of the world.

Furthermore, LG has also confirmed that one of the Friends announced at MWC 2016 along with the G5, the LG 360 VR headset, will not be available in Latin America at all due to lack of interest in this technology.
