The LG G3 might not get Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

LG has recently rolled out the G4 flagship model, which arrives with the latest software version on the market, meaning Android 5.1 Lollipop.

But what about older premium models manufactured by the company? In an interesting twist of events, an anonymous insider who works at LG’s software development division has revealed that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be rolling out to the LG G2 at some point in the next two months (as spotted at Android Pit).

The update is said to bring the latest build of Android into the equation, but not only that. LG will also upgrade the UI to LG UX 4.0, so owners of the LG G2 will be able to enjoy the same features the LG G4 takes advantage of.

We haven’t been given a specific date, but we expect to see the LG G2 get updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop until the summer comes to an end. However, those of you sporting a carrier-branded version might have a longer wait ahead of you, as it is often customary.

LG G2 set to get Android 5.1.1 treatment

But there’s an interesting aspect to consider here. While we have heard that the LG G2 will get Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, no such information has been shared about its more recent brother, the G3.

The G3 was actually one of the first phones to pick up the Android 5.0 Lollipop update after the Google launched into the wild all those months ago. But things might not happen just as fast in the case of Android 5.1, and it looks like the LG G2 might beat it to the punch.

Recently, word has surfaced that the LG G Flex 2 won’t be getting the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop treatment, which makes us wonder a little bit. Could it be that LG is looking to skip a step here and will want to jump straight to Android M as far as these two smartphone models are concerned?

It might be a possibility you should be taking into account. So if you too have an LG G Flex 2 or G3 lying around at home, you might be in for quite a wait as far as your next software update is concerned.
