LG took the stage yesterday to announce a high-end smartphone, but the company didn’t reveal one important piece of information, its price. LG Electronics’ Mobile Chief Cho Juno stated in an interview with The Investor that the phone would be sold for at least $796.85 in Korea.

The executive has said that the G6 will hit stores in March 10, after a 7-day pre-order session which starts on March 2. The price seems to be a bit higher than for the predecessor G5 phone, which sold at major carriers for about $629 last year.

The G6 will cost at least $168 more than the G5, which shouldn’t be surprising considering that it does bring lots of new features and a complete design change.

The G6 will arrive at major US carriers this spring

Pricing and availability for the US and other regions weren’t disclosed. However, major carriers in the US have already confirmed that they will be offering the new phone starting this spring. Carriers and retailers in the UK have also said they will be selling the G6, but it’s unknown for how many pounds.

The exec also explained the company’s strategy when designing the new phone, saying that LG has differentiated itself from rivals over the years and has now decided to offer premium smartphone users what they really want, an easy and simple device to use.

He was clearly referring to the G5 and its modular design, which didn’t do well on the market. LG also learned from the G5 failure and started the promotional campaign for the phone six months earlier than usual. The company had trouble shipping the G5 for almost eight weeks, which affected overall sales and promotional strategy.

“We will make new investments for promotional activities in April and May before the phone’s full-scale shipment starts in the third quarter,” LG’s Cho Juno said.

LG’s mobile chief also said that the LG Pay would launch in June, but no further details on the matter were disclosed.
