LG launches a mid-range phone in South Korea

The LG Class has been leaking online for the past few days in anticipation of its release. And today, the South Korean tech giant has officially launched the phablet in the country, but customers in select international markets won’t be seeing it arrive in retail anytime soon.

As previously anticipated, the specs outline a pretty decent mid-range offering. The LG Class makes a debut into the wild with a 5-inch display that features 720p resolution with pixel density of 294ppi.

The Korean manufacturer has opted for a quad-core 1.2GHz processor on the inside (unnamed, but we’re probably dealing with a Snapdragon 410) working in combination with 2GB of RAM. LG also throws in a 13MP main camera on the back, accompanied by an 8MP front facing selfie shooter.

While this is a device that could never compete with the Samsung Galaxy S6 or other high-end devices, the LG mid-ranger does offer something that these fancy models fail to bring to the table - a microSD card slot.

The LG Class is an average phone with a few perks

The one inside the LG Class will support memory expansion up to 2TB, but not at the moment. Customers will have to wait until next month when a software update will be ushered. The microSD card slot will surely come in handy, given the fact that the phone offers only 16GB of built-in storage.

LG also throws in a pretty loud 1W speaker, 4G LTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1 and a decent 2,050 mAh battery to keep the device up and running. The operating system du-jour is Android Lollipop, although we’re not told which version exactly we’re supposed to find on board (hopefully it’s Android 5.1, as previous leaks indicated).

The LG Class measures 142 x 71.8 x 7.4 mm / 5.59 x 2.8 x 0.29 inches and weighs 147 g / 0.32 pounds (battery included). Even if the specs under the hood aren’t exactly high end, the handset has been made to look like a premium device coming in with glass on the front and metal on the back.

The smartphone will be offered in three colors including Blue Black, Silver and Gold. LG is selling the device for the equivalent of $340 / €302, which is a fairly affordable price, especially in South Korea.
