The company releases video of the ThinkPad X1 Fold

Lenovo announced the first foldable PC, the so-called ThinkPad X1 Fold, earlier this year at CES, and leaving aside its specs, one of the most notable details concerned the operating system supposed to power the device.

The ThinkPad X1 Fold was projected to run both Windows 10 and Windows 10X, which makes sense because of two major reasons. First and foremost, Lenovo is one of the largest Microsoft partners and is one of the first to support the rollout of new Windows products and software.

And second, because the ThinkPad X1 Fold itself is a foldable device and Windows 10X was designed with this form factor in mind from the very beginning.

But as Microsoft needs more time to complete Windows 10X and finalize the Surface Neo, the company’s own device projected to run the OS, Lenovo is also focusing more on Windows 10, which is exactly what the PC maker planned from the very beginning.

Release imminent?

As announced in January, the Windows 10 version of the ThinkPad X1 Fold would be the first one to ship and judging from a recent video published on YouTube by the PC maker itself, that moment might be closer than we expected.

The Windows 10X version will also come at some point in the near future when Microsoft completes its development.

“Co-engineered with Intel, the Always Connected PC is powered by Intel Core™ Processors with Intel Hybrid Technology and will initially be available with Windows 10 in mid-2020. Lenovo is planning on offering ThinkPad X1 Fold with Windows 10X at a later date for an enhanced foldable user experience. Furthermore, optional 5G connectivity will enable new ways of working wherever, whenever and however you want,” Lenovo said in the original announcement.

The new foldable PC will feature a 13.3-inch display in full flat mode with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It will be sold for $2,499, according to the information shared at CES 2020.
