14 DAY TRIAL // It seems that the development team at Traveller's Tales and publisher Warne Bros. Interactive Entertainment are getting ready to officially announce a new entry in the LEGO Star Wars series, which will deal with the events of the recently launched Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie.
A listing for the video game has popped up on the Italian Amazon site, and the existence of the title is also confirmed by insiders who usually have information about coming video games before publishers officially reveal them, according to NeoGAF.
LEGO Star Wars: Episode 7 has been teased by the two involved companies and an official reveal that will show off some of the key scenes in the movies recreated using the popular bricks is set to take place tomorrow or before the end of the week.
So far the series of games has tackled the original movie trilogy, and the prequels and gamers have also been able to explore content based on the very successful The Clone Wars television animated series.
LEGO Star Wars: Episode 7 will probably take into account all the big moments of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will give players the freedom to move around the new planets and to deconstruct a wide array of objects to create their solutions to puzzles.
The series has always had a focus on replayability that will probably mean that a wide array of characters, including protagonists like Fin, Rey and Kylo Ren but also more obscure choices, can be used to explore the narrative using their different special powers.
LEGO Star Wars: Episode 7 has a launch date of March 31 listed on the Italian Amazon site, but it is likely that this is just a placeholder and that the title will be introduced later in the year to make sure that a wider number of players pick it up.
The experience is apparently being created for the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, older home consoles, PC, the Nintendo Wii U and the 3DS handheld, with no plans to deliver it on the Vita.
More Star Wars video games are coming from Electronic Arts
LEGO Star Wars: Episode 7 has the potential to become a hit because almost no other video game uses content linked to The Force Awakens at the moment, apart from Zen Pinball 2.
DICE has made it clear that the new movie will not be used as the basis for any kind of downloadable content pack for Star Wars Battlefront and statements from Electronic Arts make it unlikely that video game will catch up to the Disney films anytime soon.
The video game publisher does have two other titles in development, with BioWare working on a Star Wars experience that will probably be revealed this year and Amy Hennig in charge of a more mysterious project that might integrate some ideas from the canceled 1313.
Disney will also integrate content associated with the coming Star Wars: Rogue One in the fall content drop for Disney Infinity, with plans, probably coming in the middle of summer.
