Video game developer TT Games, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, LucasFilm and the LEGO Group are ready to officially announce that they are working on the previously leaked LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is designed to be launched on June 28 of this year with a range of classic mechanics and a narrative based on the recently launched movie.

The game can be played on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, older home consoles, the Nintendo Wii U, the 3DS handheld, the PlayStation Vita and the PC.

The companies explain that fans of the universe will also be able to experience a new story set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, which will offer more details about the recently launched movie and the main characters.

Tom Stone, managing director at TT Games, states, "LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be pushing the series forward with innovative new gameplay mechanics, while also exploring new parts of the universe that are sure to excite and delight both LEGO and Star Wars fans, as well as newcomers to our games."

The series has managed to sell more than 33 million units so far and has already explored the original Star Wars trilogy, the prequels and the animated shows based on it.

Ada Duan, the vice president of digital business at LucasFilm, says that the action and story sequences of The Force Awakens will be mixed with new humorous elements and will deliver a new take on some familiar locations and events.

All the main characters are playable in LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The range of characters that gamers will be able to use in the coming title includes: Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, Kylo Ren, General Hux and Captain Phasma, with more set to be announced at a later date.

Confirmed locations for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens include both Jakku, site of a major engagement between Empire remnants and the Rebels, and the newly created Starkiller Base, with its unique winter climate.

The title will introduce a new take on the Multi-Builds system and TT Games is also delivering Blaster Battles as well as space dogfights that feature iconic ships like the Millennium Falcon.

Gamers who plan to pick up LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens on either the PlayStation 4 or the PS3 will be able to get access to exclusive content that includes two pieces of DLC, called Droid Character Pack and Phantom Limb Level Pack.

Star Wars is one of the hottest universes in gaming at the moment and the coming Warner Bros. published title is significant because it tackles the events of the new movie and features the instantly famous new characters.

Disney is also working with Electronic Arts to create at least two other titles based on the franchise, one that's in development at BioWare and might be revealed soon and another that's put together by a team led by Amy Hennig, rumored to feature elements from the canceled 1313.
