The team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment working on LEGO Dimensions is announcing that five new downloadable content packs are now available for the title, introducing new adventures and characters built around the Ghostbusters, Doctor Who, Back to the Future, LEGO Ninjago and the comics created by DC.

The Level 3 Wave for the title features a level pack, a team pack and fun packs, all designed to enhance the player experience, with the studio adding, "All expansion packs provide gamers the opportunity to use everything interchangeably, anywhere throughout the game. Plus, any expansion pack character can unlock the corresponding Adventure World of the same brand to provide players with additional open-world gameplay content based on that entertainment property."

The Ghostbusters level pack for LEGO Dimensions will add a new A Spook Central Adventure mission built around a big fight against Gozer in New York City.

Gamers have access to a LEGO mini figure of Peter Venkman as well as a Proton Pack, a Ghost Trap and the Ecto-1, all of them complete with rebuildable versions that will enhance gameplay as they seek to trap ghosts and save the multiverse.

The DC Comics fun pack features The Joker and Harley Quinn, each complete with unique abilities that help them in both combat and exploration, with gamers able to use the chopper and Quinn-mobile and their versions to take out enemies.

The Doctor Who Cybermen DLC has both a rebuildable Cybermen mini figure and a Dalek, and fans of Doc Brown can also pick up a Back to the Future fun pack that activates the scientist and his unique abilities while also adding a traveling time train to LEGO Dimensions.

Finally, the new Ninjago content is centered around Sensei Wu, with a buildable mini figure and a flying white dragon that can turn into a golden fire and an ultra-destruction version.

LEGO Dimensions will get new expansion content in 2016

Warner Bros. wants its game to become the leader in the toy-based video game space, which means it needs to rely on new content and improved gameplay to compensate for the headstart of rivals like Skylanders from Activision and Disney Infinity.

Both of them received updates in the fall of 2015, introducing more ways for gamers to tweak the experience based on the toys they pick up.

Disney Infinity allows gamers to pick up both Marvel-based superhero content and characters from the newly launched Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Meanwhile, Activision is focusing on original characters for Skylanders and aims to give gamers as many ways to mix and match figurines in order to create entirely new gameplay mechanics.

The fourth wave of new content for LEGO Dimensions is expected to arrive before the end of March and is centered on content from more than 20 classic Midway titles, with fun packs adding more elements linked to DC Comics and Ghostbusters.

LEGO Dimensions can be played on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, the Nintendo-made Wii U as well as older home consoles.
