They’re super comfy and go with everything, but don’t wear them if you don’t know how to cover your “tail”

Leggings are the new sweatpants: what started out like a comfortable workout item, ideal for Yoga and Pilates, is now a wardrobe staple that can be seen on the street, on the catwalk and even in high-fashion magazines.

Whether we like it or not, leggings are as hot with the women that wear them as they’re hated by those who don’t - and who think there’s something too wrong with them to substitute for real pants.

Leggings are a wardrobe staple

According to a viral post on Facebook, leggings are cool but under one condition: that you know how to accessorize them so that all your body parts are covered. There are certain things that are best kept for the bedroom and that the world doesn’t need to see, the video says.

Jamie Higdon Randolph from Cleveland, Tennessee, has been posting PSAs on her Facebook for months, but she had to tackle the ever-difficult topic of wearing leggings to go viral. She posted the video on October 15, but it was only picked up by major outlets in recent days.

As we speak, her video stands at 12.4 million views, which is quite an achievement. The fact that she managed to strike a chord with her fans and to say exactly the things they’d been thinking in relation to the topic also counts as a major achievement.

“Ladies, it's pretty much leggin' weather,” Randolph says. “I love leggin' weather. I don't care if you don't like leggins, don't judge me, they are comfortable. They don't cut into you, they're always the right length. You can dress them up, dress them down, you can look like a frat girl or you can look pretty classy in them depending on what you choose to pair with them.”

She goes on to say that leggings look good both on skinny and thicker girls. They’re also incredibly versatile, which makes them a must-have, especially for the fall season.

Leggings are not pants-pants

As versatile as they may be, leggings are not pants or, as Randolph puts it, “pants-pants.” You can’t simply throw a pair on and match it with a crop top and expect no one to give you the stink-eye when you walk out the door.

Because they’re not pants-pants, leggings can’t be worn without a top that covers the “tail” and the crotch area, the PSA says. If people down the street can see the color of your underwear or the tattoo on your thigh, then you should probably consider wearing actual pants the next time you get out of the house.

The PSA also warns against white leggings, which, apparently, are the biggest faux pas possible. You can see it in full below: it’s hilarious and actually on point.

It can also apply to those women wearing activewear leggings for actual pants whenever they’re not going to or from the gym.
