Warren Spector, one of the most influential game designers in the industry, has just joined the OtherSide Entertainment studio.

Many of the great games that have been released in the last quarter of a century had Warren Spector involved in one capacity or another. He started with titles like the Wing Commander and Ultima series, but he was also involved in projects like System Shock, Thief, and Deus Ex.

His latest games were Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two from Disney Studios, but in the past few years, he took a step back and oversaw the Denuis-Sam Gaming Academy post-baccalaureate program at UT Austin. Now, Warren Spector is back, and he joined the OtherSide Entertainment studio.

Back to his old games

You might wonder why he chose OtherSide Entertainment, a studio that seems new and small. Well, the reason is very simple. This studio is now working on the new Underworld Ascendant and a sequel for System Shock.

“When the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st-century audience, I just couldn’t say no. Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career, and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released,” Warren Spector said.

With all eyes turned on System Shock 3, the sequel to one of the best action RPG titles ever made, the pressure to deliver an amazing experience has just increased, but with Warren Spector at the helm the community can rest easy.

Neither Underworld Ascendant nor System Shock 3 has firm release dates, but they will most likely launch in 2017.
