Nokia McLaren is one of the most exciting Microsoft products that never came to be, with people close to the matter suggesting with several occasions that some of the features originally supposed to be used on this device to actually hit the market on other models.

Without a doubt, the exploding live tiles and the 3D Touch option were two of the most exciting features to debut on the McLaren, and although the company has never introduced them officially, leaked videos that reached the web every once in a while provided us with a closer look at them.

A new leaked video published on reddit by user quakenxt shows both features in action on the discontinued McLaren running Windows Phone.

Live tile improvements

While the exploding live tiles available on the McLaren seem to work quite smoothly, making us wonder how come that Microsoft never wanted to release them to users, the Redmond-based tech giant is already working on several improvements for live tiles that could be released as soon as this summer.

The software giant has already confirmed that chaseable live tiles would go live with the Anniversary Update, making it easier to access information displayed in the tile.

Specifically, when tapping an app you will be automatically redirected to the content shown in the live tiles (e.g. in Outlook, the first thing you see after tapping the app’s icon is the new email message whose subject was previewed in the live tile).

At the same time, everyone’s hoping to see interactive live tiles going live too, but at this point there’s no confirmation from Microsoft that such a feature could be released. Rumor has it that interactive live tiles are still being considered, but the company reportedly wants to complete development of the feature and get it ready for prime-time before actually pushing it to users.
