Cases provide early look at upcoming Samsung phablet

Samsung is projected to unveil the Galaxy Note 9 in early August, and at this point, we already know pretty much everything about the device.

But a new set of photos published by online retailer Mobile Fun provides us with a closer look at the design of the Note 9, all thanks to cases manufactured by Olixar and based on information shared by Samsung with partners.

The cases hint at a design that’s by no means surprising, and without checking out the back, it’s nearly impossible to find a difference when comparing the Note 9 with its predecessor. The chin is still there inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S9, and the front fascia looks almost entirely the same as the one on the Note 8.

The back is the one bringing a bunch of confirmations, like the horizontal placement for the dual-camera system, with the fingerprint sensor placed right below them. The flash and the heart rate sensor are placed to the right of the cameras.

iPhone X Plus

If this leak is accurate, then it finally puts an end to rumors concerning the location of the fingerprint sensor. Reports that reached the web earlier this year suggested Samsung could embed the reader into the glass, while some even indicated the company could give up on it in typical Apple fashion. These cases, however, show the fingerprint sensor will remain on the rear side of the phone.

At first glance, the iPhone X Plus model launching in September, and which would be positioned specifically as a rival to the Galaxy Note 9, could be the big winner of this dull redesign, especially because it’ll be a completely new product to the market.

Samsung launching the Note 9 earlier than expected is the result of the company not reaching the expected sales level with the S9, mostly as a result of the iPhone X winning the battle in the majority of markets.

In similar news, support pages for the Note 9 have also been published in a series of countries, confirming that the debut of the new model is just around the corner.
