It’s all but confirmed: the iPhone 8 will come with a top sensor bar to hold the facial recognition camera

A new video that got leaked today allegedly shows the front panel of the upcoming iPhone 8, expected to be released by Apple in September ahead of the start of sales in October.

The front panel confirms what we’ve already heard about the device, pointing out that Apple is indeed working on a bezel-less display with a top sensor bar that would be the home of the front cameras.

And we’re using the plural because the chances are there’ll be more than just a camera, as Apple is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone 8 with iris and facial recognition as well.

Fingerprint sensor embedded into the screen?

If legitimate, this front panel also confirms that the home button will be gone on Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8, so there are now fewer options for the location fingerprint sensor: Cupertino will install it either under the screen for easy unlocking with a tap on the screen or on the back of the phone in typical Android fashion.

The chances are that it’s the embedded version, as more and more sources seem to be pointing to a new approach that Samsung also seems to be working on for its future flagships.

But while Apple is very close to finalizing the tech to embed the fingerprint reader into the display, Samsung needs more time to do it, and the latest speculation in this regard seems to be pointing to a new delay to early 2018 for a Samsung phone with this feature.

A third but very unlikely possible location for the fingerprint sensor is the power button, as some patents have suggested, though the chances for this to happen are very small.

The new iPhone 8 is expected to be launched alongside two other models called iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, both of them upgraded versions of the current generation and featuring more subtle improvements.
