Microsoft working to expand Lumia portfolio

Lumia 850 could be the next Microsoft smartphone to see daylight, despite the fact that some people claim that plans for this particular device have already been shelved, and more leaks reaching the web these days come to confirm that it’s still alive behind closed doors.

Now a new leaked photo spotted on China’s Baidu shows not only what we’ve already known about the Lumia 850, but also the fact that it’s likely to arrive in several colors with a premium finish.

First and foremost, it’s worth mentioning that the Lumia 850 follows the same design line as the other Lumia models on the market. Thus, the design, at least when viewed from the front, is not really different. It does have a built-in front camera and what seems to be an infrared sensor for Windows Hello, but aside from that, it looks like just the typical Lumia phone.

Gold and pink versions

But with Lumia 850, Microsoft is also trying to bring a new more high-quality feel to the device with some special colors, including gold and pink.

It’s very important to note that the back of the phone won’t be entirely colored in pink or gold, but only the side profile, which is indeed a very nice touch without altering the whole look of the device.

Some people claim the Lumia 850, if it indeed looks like the handsets in the photos, is very similar to older iPhone models, and a concept imagining the device perfect emphasized this during the weekend.

Nevertheless, the Lumia 850, which could be a successor to the Lumia 830, could actually debut sometime in early 2016 and help Microsoft tackle the mid-range phone market with a new Windows 10 Mobile device. It could be marketed as the company’s new “affordable flagship,” but for the moment, let’s just wait and see if it’s indeed real and only then discuss its features and pricing.
