iPhone 13 packaging allegedly exposed on the web

We’re less than a month away from the moment Apple is projected to take the wraps off a new iPhone generation, and while most details have already made their way to the web, one thing that is yet to be settled is the name of the new models.

Previously, people with knowledge of the matter said Apple was reluctant to use the iPhone 13 moniker for a very simple reason: a superstition. The number 13 could be bad luck for Apple, so it was believed the company even considered skipping the iPhone 13 altogether and going directly for the iPhone 14.

Others said the Cupertino-based tech giant wants to stick with baby steps, so after the debut of the iPhone 12 last year, the company would no roll out the iPhone 12S.

Next iPhones coming in September

At some level, this makes perfect sense given the previous naming strategy used by Apple, though for the latest iPhone generation, it seems like the company abandoned this approach and instead decided to jump directly from one generation to another.

But according to Duan Rui on Twitter, the next iPhone would just be called iPhone 13, with the packaging saying it loud and clear “iPhone 13. Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China.”

This is the typical label that we can see on the box of an iPhone, but this time, it confirms the iPhone 13 moniker for the upcoming model.

Apple will unveil four different iPhones this year, all of them successors to the current models already on the market. 2021 will be the last year when the iPhone mini is getting a refresh, as Apple reportedly plans to give up on the 5.4-inch form factor and instead stick with larger models that would be offered alongside its more premium devices, possible with a small price increase.
