The smartphone is unlikely to receive a Marshmallow update

Indian handset maker Lava Mobile recently announced the immediate availability of yet another budget-friendly Android smartphone, the X3.

After having launched the mid-range Lava V5 phablet less than two weeks ago, the OEM has decided it's not too early to bring another smartphone to the Indian market, which is very competitive at the low tier.

According to a new report, Lava X3 is now available for purchase in India via Amazon and Flipkart for just Rs 6,499 ($95 / €85) off contract.

Other major online as well as brick and mortar stores are selling the Lava X3. Customers can choose between two color options: White with Silver or White with Gold.

A decent choice for newcomers to Android OS

Since the smartphone costs less than $100, we don't expect any unusual specs to have made it inside the Lava X3. Still, the device does seem a decent alternative for those who never owned a smartphone before or want to upgrade from a much older one.

First of all, Lava X3 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop right out of the box, and it's highly unlikely that the smartphone will ever receive a Marshmallow update in the future.

On the inside, the budget-friendly handset packs a modest 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Lava X3 sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution. At the back, the phone packs an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, paired with a 5-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls.

As expected, the smartphone comes with 3G HSPA+ and dual-SIM support, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio and GPS with AGPS. Lava X3 is powered by a 2,500 mAh battery, which hasn't been rated by the manufacturer yet.
