New preview build shipped to the Skip Ahead ring

Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 10 20H1, which is projected to launch in April 2020.

Windows 10 build 18860 doesn’t bring too many changes to Windows insiders in the Skip Ahead ring, but it does introduce an update to the SwiftKey experience on PCs.

SwiftKey is one of the most advanced third-party keyboards apps on mobile devices, and because Microsoft wants Windows 10 to be the right operating system for everyone and everything, it also brought the backend engine to Windows.

With this new build, Microsoft expands SwiftKey to 39 new languages, including Hungarian, Romanian, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, and Dutch.

“What does this mean for you? Basically, we’re updating the underlying language model when typing in each of these languages, to improve the accuracy of the autocorrections, shapewriting, and predictions. You’d notice this when using the touch keyboard, or the hardware keyboard text predictions (if enabled),” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, explained.

Four issues

There are obviously several other improvements and fixes in this build, and you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump.

Worth highlighting, however, is the fix aimed at a bug causing major battery drains in previous builds, but also the numerous night light improvements that should allow the filter to work correctly.

Build 18860 also comes with four different known issues, all of which have been there in the previous releases too. One of them concerns the resetting experience.

“When performing Reset this PC and selecting Keep my files on a device that has Reserved Storage enabled, the user will need to initiate an extra reboot to ensure Reserved Storage is working again properly,” Microsoft explains.

Needless to say, this build is still in the very early days, so expect more significant improvements as we advance towards its release date.
